Follow the Urban Art Trail - Part One: Ocean Beach, San Diego

A citywide operation to cover up acts of vandalism gave rise to a local beautification project.

You may recognize a few of these urban works of art from a past walkabout on a warm and beach-sandy day.

You may not, and if so, please enjoy them now.

I promise you won't have to rinse your feet off after perusing.

enjoy a warm welcome to a breathtaking view from the pierside

Be it snack, lunch, or any mealtime.

This one's a hit, and it's easycakes.

a drizzle of olive oil
coarsely chopped walnuts
chevre (my favre)
a few black plums
freshly, ground black pepper
a bit of torn minty leaves

broil to perfection, enjoy and try not to get kidnapped by the pizza delivery guy.

Lemony cheese

A bit of lightly lemon-ed cheese inspiration.

Who knew a gallon of milk and two lemons could be so delicious?

Just a touch of ginger, then add something sconey and buttery for the breakfast.

Perfection

Have a delicious day.

San Diego Restaurant Week Series: Day 6 - Cucina Urbana

'Tis my final day of this cheese exploration,
my insatiable search filled with cadence and narration.

I arrived to the locale with artistic design,
of much welcomed color, like a summer squash vine.

with seating of coffee burlap and white leather,
a wine shop within, and it all came together.

The menu highlighted the very occasion,
during Restaurant Week there's no use for persuasion.

A gorgeous pinky-tinted, lavender lemonade,
charcuterie cuts and a formaggio parade.

The Rollingstone chevre with a licorice-like flavored anise,
a drunken Lagrein which could bring the world peace.

On to choose a selection from the special four p's,
Will it be pizza or pasta? pane? piatti?

The open-faced eggplant and melty buffalo mozzarella,
gobbled up a dessert of apple crisp spiced caramela.

The week is now has ended, and I'm stuffed to thee brim,
with cheese I devoured now I must hit the gym!

For eating one's "whey" in a city so fine,
demands an official extension of the Oakenfold mix kind.

...and of course I heard them exclaim
(as I waddled from sight),
Happy Restaurant Week 2 to all, and to all a guhnite!

San Diego Restaurant Week Series: Day 5 - El Agave Tequileria

Happy cinco de restaurant week, I’ve dined at many fine places,
Still eating my ‘whey’ with a stomach so spacious.

A yearning for drinkstuff from south of the border,
no passport on hand, I knew just where to order.

I arrived to a haven filled with tequilas for tasting,
with over 2000 brands there was no time for wasting.

There was blanco, reposado, añejo and gold,
a haven of choices no yearning could hold.

A sangrita of tamarindo and peppered tomato with lime,
to enhance its taste (and make me better with rhyme).

A cobalt blue glass filled to the top with ice water,
for tequila* tasting is buzzy, and I know all the smarter.

Chalupas de lobster, cotija cheese sprinkled atop,
the feast was so filling, but I couldn't quite stop.

Filet mignon stuffed with goat cheese and a tequila of dark, I'd need me a wheelbarrow before I disembark.

The caramel flan was a toothsome delight,
but I was filled to the brim, so I had just a bite.

Such a warm tummy feeling and a little bit tipsy,
A perfect of eves for a wandering gypsy.

San Diego Restaurant Week Series Day 4 -
Bo Beau

(Continued from Twas the Night Before Restaurant Week Post)

Day four and I'm trotting warm-bellied and smitten,
I have forged through this city like a curious kitten.

I wandered a further bit close to the shore,
passed a giant majestic front looking glass door,

Then I stepped inside, smiled at the bohemian fittings,
pulled a seat up to the bar, this was no time for quittings.

I searched the wine menu from every which way,
the barkeep presented an oaked chardonnay.

Then off in a twinkling I heard from a distance,
a snackplate arrived, 'twas the pièce de résistance.

I squealed in delight at the cheese board of three
a lavender chevre, manchego, and brie.

with whole grain fresh mustard seasoned vinaigrette
this dinner of sorts was a fete de la fete.

I took to the goat cheese and roast beet flatbread,
with curried onion jam and crushed peppers of red.

For dessert basil strawberries, caramel-chocolate souffle
witih a crispy-crunch top of a French creme brulee.

So rare to indulge but for annual celebrations,
and eats mighty tasty, a standing ovation.
