How I love August.
A quiet month in the heat of summer.

A quiet month in the heat of summer.
Why not let time slow down and take a day off to enjoy the last bit of summer?
And while you're out there, don't forget to enjoy these little known holidays:

August marks a grand occasion in my books, for I am set to journey on a great adventure when the month draws to a close.
I've dynamite plans to travel far and away, to a far more dusty and colorful place.
A beautiful city and civilization that exists just one week out of the year. The famed escape and destination known the world over as Burning Man.

And so, the planning for the annual sojourn begins for many, myself included.
I am elated to have been given the assignment as the Playa Gourmet, which means I'll continue my food writing, only I'll be covering far more imaginative, epicurean undertakings with delicious and dusty condiments.
Covering eateries such as the Dust City Diner, complete with a quilted stainless steel backsplash, red leather stools, chrome finished touches, The Andrews Sisters on the radio, and of course, blue plate specials.
And watering holes such as the Gilded Lily, a full service bar gleaming with copper Victorian ceiling tiles housed beneath a dreamy Moroccan tent.
I'm elated to partake in the grand return of The Black Rock French
Quarter following a fully funded project (and then some) over at kickstarter.
It boasts of playa cocktails, a bakery, daily fresh roasted coffee, a botanica and voodoo
shop, live music, burlesque, a gumbo cookery, an on-site brewery, a wine cellar,
Mardi Gras celebrations, a jazz funeral for the Man, a playa vineyard, and an epic crawfish boil.
...and I'll still get my cheese and white wine fix at the Bar(e) Dairyaire - The Fundue Bar
I am taking this role very seriously.
When the week is said and done, I am ridiculously honored to take to the foot of the man with my fellow San Diego Fire Conclave team, who after many trials, tribuations, much dedicated sweat, and one first degree burn, are now set to perform in the Great Circle ceremony in the Fire Conclave, the planet's largest collective of fire performers.
Burning Man is an event to heighten all your senses, and I'm very much looking forward to all that it has to offer including the tasty treats that playabound folks are set to showcase this year.
The power of creative genius in one given collective at one given place in time is truly remarkable.

Much to do around these parts, but I'm really looking forward to the dusty fest, the fanciful feasts, and all that August has to offer.
Happy August, all.

A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken.
