It has struck a chord deep down to the core of my very soul.

It's the very reason why I am no longer fingerprinting the dead, and have abandoned working for the man.

Candycolored

Indeed it seems,
a day for cheerful prettied colors and candied dreams.


For confectionary sweetness,
and a blue-hued, smurfy popsicle mess.


For sugar-coated cupcake pops,
topped with sprinkled, well-wishy, bonbon shops.


For fancy, checkered teacakes
touched by charming kisses that a bee makes.


For magic castles in the cloudskies,
and easter-colored treats of pint size.


For chocolatey candy drops and dainty pleasures,
in lumps of odd shapes and sizey treasures.


and ornamental goodies filled with bits of sweetoothed surprises,


and spongy, fanciful things.


A day for pastel shapes of round,


and sweetened musicmaker's sound.


For smileyfaced breakfast pastries.
For crunchy bits of silky tasties.


and inviting heartbites of flavory love.


Sugared happies and sweet surprises to you today, 
and everyday.

The cheese plates of thanks and giving

The weekend whatnots gave rise to many bouts of diversion with the playmates. With the giving of thanks came much consumption in general, and feeding squadrons of the cheese hungry masses.

First a lovely dinner fete prepared by the culinary flair of Chef Cameron. The evening bore a name finely suited as Gobble Gobble Craft Beer +Tapas Night.


The evening's cheese board included bits of a well-aged, English Cheddar, a lavender and wild fennel pollen infused chevre with a fitting rockstar designation (Purple Haze), a four year aged Dutch Gouda, and the ever present goaty, Midnight Moon. Its slightly aged and nutty morselbits yielding notes of salted caramel could leave anyone to weep.

A sinful baked brie with tart apples and jalapeno jelly followed suit shortly after dinner.


Chef Cameron is in furious preparation at the moment, for his first closed door restaurant event this Friday, November 30th, which I am patiently awaiting with great anticipation.

Think I'll be toting yet another lovely cheese board suited for effervescent wines come Friday.

With Thanksgiving day came daylight, and a formal cheese spread, for an assorted flock of lovely folks.


Thursday's serving included the extra touches of a tightly woven, blue marbled Jack, and a real treatbit of a double creamed, fromager d'affinois, the perfect substitute for butter. 

Our festive hosts were kind enough to give stars to all the cheeses which went smashingly with the day's holiday offerings.


The final cheese assembly went to a very special group of cheese-loving pals, for a proper pairing.


This plate was adorned with a Vintage Gouda, and the much welcomed, spicy and spoonable, St. Agur, a blue cheese, buttercream-dream of melt in your mouth proportions, both of which paired extraordinarily well with the selected sweet dessert wine.


Oh, how I do love the feasting and festing that this time of year calls for.

 Here's to snuggling by toasty fireplaces with cozy company, comforting food, and drinking from warm cups filled with things as lovely as drinkable kittens.

Gobbledygook

Awoke this fine morning and began counting my teeth with my tongue while giving much thought to this given holiday.


To be perfectly honest, I find Thanksgiving to be a odd little American holiday, gathering around a rather large pheasant type bird, surrounded by ears of ornamental Indian corn everywhere (except for on a dinner plate),  the rather inaccurate historical recounts of happy Indians and men wearing buckles upon their hats, shoes, and belts to gather round a bountiful feast in celebration.


But along with the Presidential pardoning of turkeys and a giant inflated Elmo taking to the streets of Manhattan in the name of corporate tradition, is indeed a day of thanksgiving, not misgiving.

I'm learning more and more with each passing day that perhaps being thankful means recognizing what you have for what it is.


I am thankful for cold weather, as it serves as a kind reminder of how lovely the warm weather is,
and equally for the warm weather that allows us to truly appreciate taking comfort in snuggling up during the cooler days.

For colossal sweaters and bright leaves

I am thankful for the bad things that happened along the way, for they truly opened my eyes to the good things I wasn't paying attention to.


I am thankful for all those who I've bumbled and stumbled onto my lifepath, both good and bad, past and present, for you have all shaped the person I am today.

I am thankful for being comfortable with what I know, and comfortable with what I don't know,
and maybe even a little thankful for the things I'll never know.


I am especially grateful for this day,
to spend it with family, and the friends that became family along the way.

I do hope that you too, have many things to appreciate today and everyday,

no matter what life has served up for you.

The intelligence of elephants
irrelevant, but eloquent

their clumsy sort of elegance

Get a theme song

Get a mission statement, 
then get a theme song.


For we all know that music has a powerful way of affecting our very moods.

It need not matter whether it's of the Rocky anthology, James Brown "I Feel Good", or Chariots of Fire instrumental variety.

As long as you have a song up in that headspace. A siren song to walk in step to every beat to the very soundtrack of your life.

To walk through the doors leading to that unnerving interview.

To dance along with that heavy thinking.

To join the explosive expressions of your personal experiences.

To provoke fond memories of nostalgia.

To soothe and relax you from the stresses of life,

 or to motivate you to do grand things with great love.


Perhaps choose a song with a powerful climax,
the powerful drum fill from Mr. Collin's "In the Air Tonight" comes to mind,

or one that's as tranquilizing as Debussy's impeccable Clair de Lune,

then create a feel-good playlist.


Whatever you choose, make sure it has the power to get you out of bed and singing in the morning.

For when the words fail,
music speaks.

All is well in the world, and today this is my piano-tapping, no better words for a theme song.

China plate in a shooting gallery

Oh, the devil within you
on a day such as this.


With those wild sparks in your eye,

There's a sharp smell of a blaze of change,
