Le Diner en Blanc - San Diego: An evening of heavy white on white action

The highly sought-out, renegade Parisian party, simply known as 'The Dinner in White' made its grand entrance to the sunshiny San Diego coast late last week.

Highly touted for its elegance and exclusivity, this pop-up picnic travels the globe over, hosted at highly recognized, world landmark sites in fifteen carefully selected cities, spanning fifteen countries a year.

Paris, France

Brisbane, Australia

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Singapore Bay

Kigali, Africa

The tale of the all white feast began twenty four moons past, with an episode in Paris when a Frenchman by the name of Francois Pasquier, asked his long time companions to meet for dinner at a secret location asking them to wear all white to identify themselves.

This has since evolved into an all out, high society, flash picnic mobfest, where guests assemble themselves at strategic locations before they are shuttled off to their secret dining destination.

One thousand lucky citizens of San Diego were headquartered off to the lappy shores of Harbor Island for the high profile event. It was the perfect locale with the crest of the Coronado Bridge on the horizon.

Guests quickly took to piecing together their dinner tables and sprucing up their lovely decor making each group setting a unique and immaculate white-frosted curiosity.

All pearl, linen, and floor-length gown wearing diners nestled into the night bearing an enchanting element of mystery, escapism, and a romantic fairy tale evening meal by candlelight perfectly suited for fancy boys and birds.

Dinner options were vast and varied as diners were responsible for ordering picnic dinners in advance, or could opt to bring their own banquets to the table.

There was a general French and Bastille Day type theme going, with Coq au vin French chicken dinners, and deliciously stinky French cheese selections abound.

We elected to have the decadent vegetarian dinner option including a lovely quiche Lorraine, a watermelon feta salad, garden greens, an olive baguette, and a spring quinoa almond with mint garnished side.

For dessert, a white dusted, cream-filled Napoleon, a flaky multi-layered, French pastry of sorts. I devoured half of it before capturing the remaining section.

The remainder of the evening was filled with specialty cocktails, live music, dancing, a best dressed contest, and smiles abound. It was unhindered and lovely to say the least.

Even if the bloomy grass did my only existing pair of white stilettos no favors.

Fortunately, these spikes were salvaged from my bag of goods that were well on their way to being donated just in time before they abandoned my closet forever. I trust, that I'll be sending them back on their merry way now that the white night is said and done.

The evening highlight presented itself at 9:05pm, when the night's patrons simultaneously lit handheld candles and raised them in the good name of celebration.

I've been left incredibly inspired, and now have in mind to host my own white gathering, featuring all white food where my houseguests will enjoy delicately blended snow white scroppinos made by blending prosecco and vodka into ice with a hint of lemon gelato.

Then we'll  twirl into cream dishes and nibble on white macaroons.

Why, I may just have to call it
The White Macaroon Afternoon.

What a magical night of flurried white.

Keep those eyes peeled now, as this worldly achromatic fete is now sweeping the surface of this green earth, covering extraordinary locations such as Australia, Canada, Côte d'ivoire, France, Italy, Mexico, Rwanda, Spain, the United Kingdom, and now including America's Finest City, San Diego.

Bien sur!
